Club Training at King George Oval

Are you new to athletics? Do you want to improve your throwing or jumping technique? Learn how to hurdle or race walk? Have you ever used starting blocks? And do you want to improve your fitness? If you answered YES to any of these questions, then BAC training is for you.

Tuesday - Club Training for 6s to 17s, 5.30-7pm starting 15 October 2024

Aimed at new and developing athletes wanting to be active, have fun and build skills. 6s and 7s get involved in the Kids Athletics Program. 8s-17s focus on developing skills for their upcoming Saturday morning program. Training delivered by junior and senior coaches.

  • 5.15pm: Meet with Adults/Parents helping Coaches and Volunteers set out equipment
  • 5.30-6pm: Club Warm Up for all athletes
  • 6-6.30pm: Skill Session 1
  • 6.30-7pm: Skill Session 2
  • 7-7.15pm: Pack Up with Adults/Parents helping Coaches and Volunteers return all the gear

Thursday - Specialist Club Training for 11s to 17s, 5.45-7pm starting 17 October 2024

Specialist event training for experienced, intermediate and advanced level athletes. Limited events. Training delivered by senior and specialist coaches.

  • 5.45-6pm: Warm Up
  • 6-7pm: Skills Training

Specialist coaches

Mel Murphy - Racewalking
Over the last five years Mel has coached junior athletes to State titles and National medals in both track walking and road walking events.

Paul Raptis - Middle Distance 
Paul has a Masters of High-Performance Sport and undergraduate studies in Exercise Physiology. He is accredited as a Level 3 Performance Coach and Middle and Long Distance specialisation Coach. This is Paul's first season with the Club. 

Richard Chen - Conditioning and Fitness, Throws & Jumps 
With knowledge and experience in coaching across all events, Richard has a passion for skill development and encouraging all athletes. He has expertise in conditioning and fitness, jumps, relays, sprints and throws. Richard is the Club's Coaching Coordinator and takes a special interest in overseeing the development of our junior coaching team.

Representative Club Coaching

Training sessions will be available for those athletes who are representing the Club at ANSW and LANSW events inlcuding State Relays, Zone, Regional and State Championships. Times and dates will be posted during the season on the Club's socials and website. Information will also be shared by email.

Starting Blocks Training

LANSW rules only allow the use of starting blocks by athletes in the 11s age group and older. Athletes will need to have been signed off by a Club Coach before they are permitted to use Blocks during Saturday morning competition.

2024 Pre-season Training at King George Oval

Thank you to all the athletes who attended our first We're pre-season "fun & fitness" program during the October 2024 school holidays. Adult/parent & carer supervision is required at all times. 

  • Tuesday sessions on 1 and 8 October 2024 are for all athletes in the 6s to 17s age groups and run from 5.30 to 6.30pm at KGO. Click here to register your interest.
