InterClub Competition

As members of Balmain Athletics Club, you have the opportunity to participate in inter-Club competitions and events over the 2024/25 season. During the summer these include:

  • Treloar Shield Series for athletes aged 9 (born 2015) to 90+ at various dates and venues - click here for more info;
  • NSW State Relays for:
    • Athletes in the 8s (born 2017) to 12s (born 2013), on Sunday 10 November 2024 at Sydney Olympic Athletics Centre (SOPAC);
    • Athletes in the 13s(U14) (born 2012) to 17s(U18) (born 2008), on Friday 15 to Sunday 17 November 2024 at SOPAC;
  • Inner City Zone Championships for 7s (born 2018) to 17s, 30 Nov & 1 Dec  2024 at ES Marks Athletics Track, Kensington;
  • Region 8 Championships for 8s to 17s, 1 & 2 Feb 2024 at The Ridge Athletics Centre, Barden Ridge;
  • LANSW State Championships for 9s (born 2016) to 12s, on 22 & 23 March 2025 at SOPAC;
  • Junior Championships for 13s(U14) to U20s, on 13 to 16 March 2025 at SOPAC;
  • Combined Championships for 8s to 12s on 1 & 2 March 2025 at Griffith and 25 & 26 January 2025 for 13s(U14) to Masters at SOPAC.

Important note: Some of the events listed above involve a selection process by the Club's Championship Team - namely, the NSW State Relays for athletes in the 8s to 12s and some teams in the 13s to 17s. The process for Club selection is currently under review and will be updated soon.

Click here to complete an expression of interest (EOI) form. The purpose of this EOI is to create an email group of athletes/families interested in receiving more information about being involved in inter-club competitions. 

** Athletes in the 8s to 12s wanting to be considered for the NSW State Relay event on Sunday 10 November 2024 must complete the EOI before 24 October 2024.

For athletes who participated in inter-Club competition pathways in past seasons, the NSW Athletics Partnership has introduced some changes for athletes in the 13(U14) (born 2012) to 17s(U18) (born 2008) - these athletes are referred to as “Junior Athletes”. Below is an explanation shared by ANSW and LANSW to explain some of these changes.

ANSW summary about the Zone-Region-State/Junior Championships qualification pathway

For athletes born between 2013 and 2018 (7s - 12s):
Your pathway awaits! The process is similar to previous years, so if you're ready to compete and take the next step in your athletic journey, read the information here for more details. 

7s are eligible to compete at HART Sport Zone Championships ONLY, 8s can compete at HART Sport Zone Championships and Coles Region Championships, and 9s-12s are eligible for the full Championship Pathway to State Championships

For athletes born between 2010 and 2012 (13s (U14) to 15s (U16)):
Exciting opportunities ahead! There have been some changes to the pathway from HART Sport Zone Championships to Coles Region Championships to State Championships this year. Be sure to check out the details here so you don't miss out on some great competition! You can no longer directly enter the NSW Junior Championships.

For athletes born between 2008 and 2009 (16s (U17) & 17s (U18)):
Good news! You can enter directly into the NSW Junior Championships this year. Find out more here! However, if you'd also like to gain valuable experience there are still opportunities to get involved by participating in the HART Sport Zone Championships and Coles Region Championships. 

Information provided by LANSW regarding the competition pathways for 2024/25 season

1. No Change to Pathway to State Championships Qualification for 9s to 12s

2. Two Pathways to State/Junior Championships Qualification for 13s (U14) to 15s (U16)

  • Pathway 1: Little As pathway = Zone – Region – State/Junior

  • Pathway 2: Top 8 performances across the state, including those from ANSW events such as Country Championships and Treloar Shields.

  • Note: Junior Athletes who are only registered with Senior clubs are eligible to compete at Zone/Region. 

    • Example: Kate is 13(U14) registered with St George Seniors, she is eligible to compete at Zone and Region representing her Senior Club.

3. Direct entry to State/Junior Championships for 16s (U17) and 17s (U18)

4. Treloar Shield Series Participation

  • Little As members aged 10 or older are eligible to participate in the Treloar Shield Series. 

  • Junior Athletes (13s to 17s) can represent either their Little As Centre, their Senior Club, or both. 

    • Example 1: You can represent your Little As Centre at Treloar #1 and your Senior Club at Treloar #2 (you can switch back and forth as long as it’s not in the same meet)

    • Example 2: You cannot run the 100m for your Little As Centre and the 400m for your Senior Club at the same meet.

5. Membership & Multi-Club Membership 

Athletes may take up membership(s) with both, Little As Centre and Senior Club.

  • Scenario 1: 10-year-old Zane registers with Liverpool LAC, and he joins Bankstown Seniors as a community member to benefit from training at The Crest. He will be charged a full Liverpool LAC fee + Bankstown Senior Club fee (ANSW fee excluded).

    • Zane cannot represent Bankstown at ANSW Official Events 

  • Scenario 2: Selma 14(U15) can take up two (2) Junior Memberships, Ingleburn LAC and Campbelltown Seniors. She will be charged a full Ingleburn LAC fee + Campbelltown Senior Club fee (ANSW fee excluded).

    • She can represent both, the Little As Centre and Senior Club at various Events  

      • She may represent Campbelltown in the 4x400m NSW State Relay

      • She may represent Ingleburn LAC in the 4x100m NSW State Relay

      • She may represent Ingleburn LAC at Zone, Region & State 

      • If she fancies the Pole Vault, she will have to represent Ingleburn LAC

      • She may represent Campbelltown at NSW 3000m Champs

6. Nationals for U13 to U18 - Australian Junior Championships 2025, 4 to 8 April 2025

  • You must achieve the qualifying standard and compete at State/Junior Championships. 

  • If you failed to compete at State/Junior Championships, you must have a Qualifier and have demonstrated satisfactory efforts throughout the season
